For many people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, fear of the unknown regarding chemotherapy treatments and how they work can sometimes result in nearly as much stress as dealing with the disease itself.

We understand how overwhelming it can be to learn that you or a loved one has mesothelioma. Alimta®, also known as pemetrexed for injection, is a chemotherapy drug that is frequently used with cisplatin to treat malignant pleural mesothelioma. Alimta® is administered through an IV. These procedures take place at a cancer treatment center or other qualified facility and happen once every three weeks (21 days).
In the majority of cases, the Alimta® is administered first. This portion of the treatment usually takes about 10 minutes to complete. After approximately 30 minutes has passed, the cisplatin portion of the treatment begins. It is also administered through an IV. This portion of the treatment takes approximately two hours to complete.
There can be a number of side effects associated with any chemotherapy treatment, and Alimta® is no exception. Speak with your doctor or a member of his or her staff if you have questions or concerns about the side effects you encounter after an Alimta® treatment.
