Mesothelioma and the Chemotherapy Drug Alimta®

Alimta® is a chemotherapy drug marketed by Eli Lilly and Company. It is also known by its generic name, pemetrexed for injection. Alimta® is used to treat a variety of so-called nonsmall cell lung cancers referred to as advanced nonsquamous nonsmall cell lung cancers, including mesothelioma.

Chemotherapy treatments often involve the use of one or more drugs designed to destroy cancer cells or slow their growth. Alimta® has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be used with another chemotherapy drug called cisplatin for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma or MPM.
