Asbestos discovered during auditorium demolition

North Carolina residents who have been exposed to asbestos need to be aware of the potential for harm. In many instances, people aren’t even aware that they or loved ones were exposed to asbestos when they develop health problems associated with the substance. Asbestos-related disease will almost inevitably result in death to those who suffer from it. Their family members need to be aware of the possibility of filing asbestos litigation to be compensated.

Workers who were part of the crews demolishing a North Carolina auditorium recently might have been subject to asbestos exposure. These workers were city employees as well as contractors hired for the job. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been investigating the possibility that workers might have been exposed to asbestos.

The building was constructed in 1959 and was closed in September as preparations were made for it to be demolished. A scrap company was removing items such as furniture and seats from the building. Workers were allegedly misinformed regarding asbestos. The work was stopped in October.

Asbestos was a commonly used substance for a variety of reasons before it became known as dangerous. Even after it was revealed that asbestos exposure could lead to cancers and lung problems, many companies tried to either cover up its presence and links to illness or would simply offer a payout to end any chance at asbestos litigation.
